Photographs of Yellow-hooded blackbirds made by Dominiek Plouvier (Nickerie, Suriname Sept 2008) and Pascal Dubois in French Guiana. This bird lives in groups in wet places, for instance in the rice-fields in the west of Suriname, but also on meadows near Paramaribo or in swamps along the coast. The nest is sometimes visited by the shiny cowbird, a brood parasite that lays her eggs in the nests of many birdspecies in Suriname (Renssen found such a nest). Nests were seen from March to September.

These male (above) and female were photographed at the birdcage of the Luchmun family, Paramaribo Suriname (Ribot).

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. They are often found near water. In South America they are found along the northern coast and along the Amazone(see map below).

Photo of a male Yellow-hooded oriole, made by J. Schultz in Suriname above and below a photograph made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane, what a beautiful bird. And then two birds photographed in Nickerie by Ribot in 2006, probably young males not yet in full color.
