Photo by R. Ribot, Emmen, May 2000. There is also a short video (still 1 MB), but its easily recognisable sound is not available. It calls its Surinames name (Kriko) or his Portugese name, especially at night and in the early morning, often in duet or with even more birds participating. It is a shy bird, hiding during the day, that will run away if spotted.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. It is especially numerous in the coastal region in marshes, mangrove and rice-fields. It is also found in savanna and in the interior, even on higher places it can be quite numerous (and noisy).
