Photo of a male Green Kingfisher, made by Leo Olmtak in his
garden in paramaribo in December 2008 and of a female Green
kingfisher, made by Erik Toorman in the Cultuurtuin in
Paramaribo, Suriname in 2003. Then two pictures of another male
seen by Dennis Binda in Suriname in August 2008. Below the text
is a picture of a pair of Green kingfishers found along a smaller
creek in the neighbourhood of Lelydorp, photographed by Jan Hein
Ribot in 2006. Another female was photographed by Wouter Plouvier
at Weg naar Zee in December 2006.
These kingfishers are smaller then the resembling Amazone Kingfisher and are found along
smaller creeks and canals then this last one. On the photographs
below you see the white wingspotting on the wing of the female
and some on the wing of the male. She has two green bands on her
chest with a pale, buffy band in between. The bill is not as
spectacular as the Amazone's. This is a sound of the Green Kingfisher.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
