The first two photos were made by Dennis Binda in Suriname in August 2008. Then follows a picture made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (Côté Nature) and one below the text of two swallow-wings made in Suriname by Candy McManiman in 2005. The Swallow-winged puffbird is a very common bird in Suriname, in the savanna and in the forest region. They often sit in groups higher up in trees and regularly fly a short distance to catch an insect. They are also easy to spot in sandy places where they breed in holes, in Suriname mostly from August to November in the long dry period. The sound of two flying Swallow-winged puffbirds was recorded by Alexandre Renaudier in French Guyana in May 2008.
