Blue ground-dove

Photo of a male blue ground-dove made by Foek Chin Joe near the J.A. Pengel aiport in Suriname in 2006. Below are a male and a female photographed by J.S. Dunning in Suriname and Colombia resp. The bird is not rather uncommon in Suriname. Almost all the observations of this dove have been made in the savanna area, south of the coastal zone: like near Zanderij and Phedra and in the Mapane area. The male produces several soft "coos" within a couple of seconds, each time inflating his breast. A video shows him, with a soft sound track.
