Photo of a Ruddy Pigeon, taken by Carla Out in Suriname in November 2007. This pigeon is easily mistaken for a plumbeous pigeon, but in this picture you can see its dark eye, whereas the Plumbeous pigeon has light eyes. Also the sounds are different, but I only have the sound of the Plumbeous Pigeon available. The Ruddy pigeon likes to eat the seeds of the Cecropia that it is sitting in on the photograph. Normally it is a bit secretive, it stays inside the forest and so you hear it more often than see it. It is common in the rainforest of Suriname.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
