The first photo has been made by carl Beel at Overbridge in Suriname in June 2010, the second one by Foek Chin Joe in Suriname and the third one by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (Côté Nature). The Yellow-tufted woodpecker is often seen in dead (part of) trees, like in the photos or in the dead trees in burnt-over pieces of the rainforest, partly cleared for agriculture. Otte Ottema made a recording of the sound of a Yellow-tufted Woodpecker in the Bakhuis area in Suriname.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
