
The photo above was made by Candy McManiman in the early morning at the airstrip of the Raleigh Falls nature reserve in Suriname and the one just below the text by Foek Chin Joe, also in Suriname. The chachalaca makes a characteristic sound, that resembles its surinamese name: wakago. The bird makes a loud noise mostly in the morning or evening, at first a calm "wakago" but then it almost explodes and after that it softens again. It is very shy, so you don't very often get to see it.
