The first two photos were made by Foek Chin Joe in the Tourtonne area in Paramaribo in December 2006. The third photo was made by Erik Toorman on the Adek university campus in February 2009 and the third by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (Côté Nature). The bird could be confused with a Southern beardless tyrannulet (Campostoma obsoletum with its sound), both have no special markings on their feathers and they are best recognised by their voice. Both are fairly common in Paramaribo and along the coast, but the Southern beardless tyrannulet is also found regularly in savanna and forest. This is a sound of the Mouse-colored Tyrannulet, recorded by Alexandre Renaudier at Yalimapo near Mana in the west of French Giuana, near the border with Suriname.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
