Photo of a (eastern) long-tailed hermit (with an abnormal short tail) made by N. Takano (personal museum of natural history, his copyright as with all the other photographers) on the Brownsberg in August 2004. This hummingbird is a very common sight, it goes quickly from flower to flower, often low in the forest along a path. And it will often hang still in the air and have a look at the people that walk there. Sometimes you come across a group practising "communal singing". The "leks" where this is practiced, stay on the same places for years.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
