The ornate hawk-eagle is a beautiful bird of prey, that can be seen in the rainforest of Suriname. The bird on the first two pictures was photographed by Leen and Martina Bakker in the Brownsberg nature park in november 2003. Maybe the same bird (same spots on chest?) in the third and fourth photo was seen several times by Steven Wytema in 2005 on the Brownsberg and is here seen eating a lizard. Alexandre Renaudier photographed probably the same bird in December 2006 (it likes to be looked at?) and Dominiek Plouvier saw the bird in August 2008, all at the Brownsberg. So the Ornate Hawk-eagle is regularly seen and photographed in the Brownsberg nature park, but is a rather rare bird in general.

Flying Ornate Hawk-eagle, photographed by Carl Beel at Babunhol in Suriname in Novemeber 2009.
Each small square indicates the observation of one ornate hawk-eagle, the medium ones at least 4 observations and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
