Photo of an Eared dove, made by Foek Chin Joe in Suriname. The two dark spots on its head have given the name to this turtle-dove. This dove lives mainly on the ground in rather open sandy places. As most of the observations of these rare doves in Suriname come from July, it might be that the birds migrate, as they also seem to do in Venezuela, according to Steven Hilty. On Aruba they are common on beaches but also in town. That is where the four pictures below come from (Ribot, May 2008), the brown bird is a young eared dove.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
